2017 Summer Camp Scholarship
Four weeks of specialty camps are offered each summer at Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. A maximum of 12 scholarships will be awarded by the Friends of Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve, our non-profit organization that supports educational opportunities at the Slough.
All sessions of the camps involve exploring and learning about nature through the beauty of the Slough. Each camp is led by the Camp Director and Lead Counselor, with additional support by Volunteer Counselors. Every camp day follows a detailed schedule of activities in the Slough’s Interpretive Center, boardwalk trail, Rock & Stroll Garden, and wet walk trail (Fridays only). Children should not bring any electronic equipment (e.g. cell phones, i-Pods) to camp.
Please note, these are day-camps with specific drop-off and pick-up times. Campers must bring their own lunch, snacks, and refillable water bottle with a strap or clip. Each scholarship covers the full cost of the camp program fee ($75). Scholarships are awarded as acceptable applications are received. If a student is interested in attending two sessions, the Friends may grant two scholarships if your essay is accepted and space is available. Download the 2017 scholarship application here.
"Rock On" in the Slough Garden
The Friends are launching a unique fund raising project to support the educational programs and materials for the Slough. With a donation of $250 to the Friends Educational Fund a beautiful natural river stone (approx. 11” – 15” in size) will be placed in the center garden at the Slough.
The stones may be engraved with a name, favorite saying, peaceful thought, or remembrance. Each stone can accommodate up to 25 characters. The stones will be placed along the center garden walkways near the main parking lot. The Rock committee anticipates that the stones will last for many years. What a great way to own your personal pathway marker in the Slough!
The stones are available at $250 each. Please contact Terri Krass, email@example.com or Steve Tutko, firstname.lastname@example.org for an order form or call the Friends at (239) 533-7557.
